Student Profile: Anna-Luna Rossi

Biography

My interest in marine biology originates from growing up close to water, between the Mediterranean Sea and Eastern Canada. I attended the University of Montreal to complete my undergraduate degree in Biodiversity, Ecology and Evolution. I then proceeded to gain knowledge and broaden my perspective on the remarkable diversity of marine life through traveling and eco-volunteering in Southeast Asia. I am now an MSc student at the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries where I am conducting my research under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Pauly.

Part of my scientific pursuits are also geared at raising awareness about global biodiversity and the vital significance of safeguarding our ecosystems through photography and writing. I am part of the council and scientific committee of Reserva YLT, an organization aiming to empower young people to make a difference for species and habitat protection through education and conservation projects.

Research Interests

My current project focuses on catch reconstruction and ecosystem modeling in the islands of Saint Pierre and Miquelon (Eastern Canada). I am interested in the impacts of fisheries on different trophic levels and in management methods to implement sustainable fisheries.

On top of this, I’m passionate about shark ecology and conservation, climate change impacts on marine ecosystems and fisheries regulation around the world.
